Cultured marble is a manmade product for use in bathrooms. The gelcoat finish on the marble makes it impervious to water and does not need to be resealed. It is a very low maintenance product.
Cultured marble walls can be attached to sheet rock or plywood. It cannot be applied to cement backer board.
We recommend that you do not use anything abrasive like Ajax, Commet or brillo pads. We suggest scrubbing bubbles for cleaning and pledge or RainX for gelcoat maintenance.
Most granite has already been treated with a sealer when it is installed. The use of Clorox, Windex and acidic cleaners will break the down the sealer and possibly etch your stone. Cleaning with antibacterial soap and water is ideal for cleaning. If your stone darkens or absorbs water when wet we recommend that it be resealed.
Granite and Quartzite are natural stones. Because they are porous, they do need to be sealed. High heats cannot damage the finish and they are perfect for indoor and outdoor use. Quartz is a manmade stone made with a resin. It is impervious to water penetration and has no need to be sealed. Because of the resin, UV rays can damage the Quartz finish when used outside. Extreme high heat can also damage its finish.
Rarity of the stone is the main driving force on pricing. The rarer the stone, the more expensive it will be.
